The object of the exercise is to measure explosive leg power. This test will help predict acceleration and jumping performance and is good for all appropriate positions.
Equipment Required
Broom Handle
Vertical measuring stick with the markings clearly visible
Routine
• Warm up properly and do three or four full vertical jumps.
• Place the broom handle across your shoulders behind your neck
and hold with your hands. This will prevent your arms adding
momentum to the jump.
• Do three vertical jumps to your full potential allowing a five second
breather between jumps. Squat down into a comfortable position,
and explode upwards landing in a standing position…then repeat
the process.
• The highest jump of the three is recorded for the test purposes.
Some coaches prefer to record the average height of the three
jumps, but it is an individual choice.
• The measuring stick can be placed in the ground, a safe distance
away from the soccer player, or it can be held by one of the
players waiting to be tested whilst the coach records the results.
