This test is designed to measure speed and agility of all player groups. Basically, it measures the time taken to finish a course designed to include lateral and forward running as well as backward running.
Kit and Area Required
• A playing surface indoor or outdoor with a recommended minimum of 10
square meters
• Four cones placed one at each corner of the test area
• Stopwatch or equivalent
• Two coaches or senior players
Method
• Importantly, warm up thoroughly and safely.
• Assume the starting position with one foot and the opposite hand on the
start line.
• Start on the whistle or command.
• Sprint forward from cone A to cone B and touch the base of cone B with
your right hand.
• Keep facing forward and shuffle left to cone C, and touch the base of
cone C with your left hand. It is important not to cross your feet during
the shuffle.
• Shuffle to cone D and touch the base of cone D with your right hand.
• Shuffle back to cone B and touch the base of cone B with your left hand.
• Finally, run backwards towards cone A and pass the start/finish line.
One of the coaches should be placed near the finish to catch any falling players during their backward running finale. The course layout can be varied to involve both right and left directional shuffling.
