Soccer Fitness Training

 Advantages of Speed Training

Soccer speed training has many advantages over normal soccer training which is why this type of training activity should an integral part of any soccer conditioning or soccer fitness training programme.

Speed training is based on the speed of your limbs so drills such as sprinting drills and reaction drills are often utilised by individuals to maximise performance levels. The same is true for general fitness levels of people who just want to get fit. Whatever the reason why an individual wants to get fit, the benefits of adding speed training to their workout will show noticeable results.

Muscle Power

Muscle Power will be enhanced because of the effort required from your body when compared to regular fitness soccer drills. This high level of work will increase bone density, create new muscle tissue and improve overall strength. This type of training also conditions the body to store and release energy more productively.

Agility

Is the ease of movement of the body when turning at speed to change direction, being able to stop when accelerating and of course the all important explosive burst of power to leave your opponent speechless. The development of the Fast-Twitch Muscle is a key factor in agility potential where rapid changes at power are required. Include speed training in all your soccer drills training and your body's muscle memory will be ready for that turn before you have consciously made the decision.

Calories

Speed training also burns more calories than the equivalent intensity drills so this strategy is often used constructively to reduce workout time but maintain the same levels of fitness. The advantages of a reduced training time by the introduction of quick, high intensity bursts will benefit the body by reducing waste product build up in the muscle groups which will make training a more comfortable experience. And don't forget to apply soccer speed training to the kids soccer drills programmes if you are coaching as this will help develop good soccer training habits as they progress through the age groups.

Endurance

Endurance is the ability to exercise at a higher level or perform over a longer period of time. Speed training will help the player improve his/her endurance by improving the body's ability to store oxygen which will result in optimum muscle performance. Increased endurance levels will soon be noticed as weight sessions become easier and cardiovascular workouts become an almost spiritual experience as breathlessness fades and you enter that wonderful zone reserved for the seriously fit and conditioned person.
